Every Indian vehicle registration begins with a state code followed by a two-digit RTO number. The prefix PB08 is assigned to the Amritsar Regional Transport Office in Punjab. Any vehicle whose number plate starts with PB08 was originally registered here.
A typical PB08 plate looks like PB08 AB 1234 — the first four characters (PB08) identify the RTO, the two letters are the series, and the last four digits are the unique vehicle number.
