Every Indian vehicle registration begins with a state code followed by a two-digit RTO number. The prefix BR01 is assigned to the Patna Regional Transport Office in Bihar. Any vehicle whose number plate starts with BR01 was originally registered here.
A typical BR01 plate looks like BR01 AB 1234 — the first four characters (BR01) identify the RTO, the two letters are the series, and the last four digits are the unique vehicle number.
